Choice of materials is a part of the brand identity
Hydro is a fully integrated aluminium company with 35,000 employees in 40 countries on all continents. Fablab Design was given the task of renovating the canteen and lounge area in 2 major buildings in Drammensveien 260 in Oslo. Hydro Property rents out office space to IF insurance, Electrolux, Sweco and Klaveness among others. All tenants use common areas and a large canteen area. Our mission was to create new social zones to be used beyond lunchtime for a coffee break or a place to have a short meeting. Our design solution balances the hard surfaces of aluminium, glass and steel with softer and warmer elements for more comfort. Combining Norwegian design with Japanese Zen. Sustainability is also important, through renovation and re-using existing furniture. We upgraded the kitchens, created new lounge areas and constructed two new coffee shops. The rooms are impressive with high ceilings and lots of light and glass. The pendant light in the main room is raised 15 meters above ground, and is composed of several types of wood pendants and birds in gold. King of the forest, the Hydro moose with its gold crown, watches over the room making sure everyone is well looked after.
